The legacy of Ancient Egypt
In 1925, an excavation led by the Egyptologist George Reisner discovered the tomb of one of the most important pharaohs of Ancient Egypt, Hetepheres, wife of Pharaoh Snefru.
Despite the fact that the tomb had been looted by former thieves, in the burial chamber they found several furniture made of wood, very well preserved, among which stood out a transport chair, a bed and two armchairs. However, the most valuable piece of furniture found in this excavation is the one recognized worldwide as the Hetepheres chair, whose back made of wood, is finely worked in delicate filigree.
Today, many famous decoration companies are inspired by this model to come up with chair designs made unique.
Undoubtedly for students of life in Ancient Egypt, the discovery of the tomb of the pharaoh Tutankhamun, whose supposed curse fueled the imagination of many Hollywood directors and screenwriters, marked a milestone in the history of archeology.
The find allowed us to know details of the life of this pharaoh, who despite looking very young, would pass into immortality through his burial chamber and the objects found in it. One of the ones that perhaps went unnoticed was a folding bed.
This bed once again demonstrated the great skill of the Egyptians for furniture manufacturing, is built with numerous sheets of papyrus paper, supported on eight wooden legs in the shape of a lion and measures one meter eighty. It is kept at the Griffith Institute at the University of Oxford and can be considered a prototype of current folding beds.
The legacy of the Neolithic settlement ofÇatalhöyük
Another important archaeological find to understand the behavior of the ancients was Çatalhöyük, a city discovered in 1958 in Turkey, south of Anatolia. Thanks to this conquest of archeology, a statuette was found, a precedent of the figures modeled in different materials in ancient times.
This figure of fine craftsmanship is over eight thousand years old and represents an obese woman, carved from marble. It is believed that it was used for some type of ritual.
Is synthesis elaborated by Livingo, allows us to understand that many of the furniture and decorative objects used today in homes, had their origins in the ancient civilizations of the world and that modern man has reinterpreted them to achieve new designs, eternalizing the knowledge of ancient man.
